I grew this painting from small memories—bare feet in grass, a red door that felt like home, a tree that kept our secrets. The boy holds a key and the birds lift from the branches, as if the sky itself has hinges. Along the bottom are tokens I love to keep—cages and gates, a toy train, chalk marks and numbers—the language of play and possibility. It’s a picture about learning how to open things gently: houses, hearts, mornings, wings. Texture holds the story like old plaster; light shifts across greys, greens and the soft orange of a well-worn jumper.
