Kenmare trip notes

From Ludmila’s journal · Visitor details checked 24 October 2026

A practical companion to Autumn around Kenmare, with the places from our trip, admission notes and links for planning your own visit.

Prices and access details below are a dated guide. Check the linked sources before travelling, especially outside the main season.

Kenmare & West Cork

01 / Park Hotel, Kenmare

Kenmare town, Co. Kerry

The hotel and spa from the story. The hotel advertises daily art tours for residents and visitors; ask about the time, availability and any charge.

Book rooms, spa treatments and access directly with the hotel. Prices and what is included depend on the booking.

02 / The Purcell Gallery

28 Main Street, Kenmare

You can see Ludmila Korol's prints and a few original paintings here. Contact the gallery before a special journey to check opening hours and what is currently on display.

Gallery telephone: +353 (0)64 6679890.

03 / Garnish Island / Ilnacullin

Ferry from Glengarriff, Co. Cork

The garden and the ferry are separate tickets. OPW garden admission: adult €5; senior/group €4; child/student €3; family €13. Blue Pool currently lists an adult ferry fare of €12.50; confirm the return fare when booking.

OPW lists its 2026 season as 20 March to 1 November, with September-October hours of 10:00-16:30. Ferry operators publish their own seasons and departure times. Check the sailing and last return for your date before setting out.

04 / Gougane Barra

Lake, oratory and forest park, Co. Cork

St Finbarr's Oratory is beside the lake on the approach to the forest park. Coillte lists car entry to the forest park at €5, paid by debit/credit card, or with a Coillte annual pass.

Use the Coillte trail map to choose a walk. Check gate hours and current access notices; the official visitor page does not give a fixed daily gate timetable.

Beara: gardens, the waterfall and stone circles

05 / Derreen Garden

Lauragh, Beara Peninsula, Co. Kerry

Woodland paths, tree ferns and sea views. Published garden hours: 10:00-18:00 all year. Café: 11:00-17:00, March-November.

Admission: adult €12; child €6; family €35 for two adults and accompanying children under 18.

06 / Gleninchaquin Park

Tuosist, Beara Peninsula, Co. Kerry

This is the waterfall in the story. The park publishes a March-October season, opening from 10:00 with last entry at 17:00. Check directly for seasonal changes.

Admission: adult €8; senior/student €7; child aged 12 or under €6; family €24 for two adults and two children. Choose a walk suited to the conditions and available daylight.

07 / Cashelkeelty Stone Circles

Near Lauragh, on the Beara Way

Beara Tourism describes the signposted approach from the Lauragh-Ardgroom road, with a parking area beyond the sign. This is a walk to the stones, so allow time for the approach as well as the visit.

No current operator admission price or timetable was verified. Follow local signs and access instructions on the day.

08 / Uragh Stone Circle

Near Gleninchaquin, Beara Peninsula

A separate stop from Cashelkeelty and from the park entrance. Tuatha / Abarta Heritage lists year-round access and a voluntary donation box with a suggested €5 donation; confirm the current request at the gate.

The approach road is narrow and the path to the stones is uneven and uphill. Respect farmland, close gates and follow access notices.
